On-device model guide

ESRGAN runs locally in this browser.

Browser readiness

Can this device run the model?

The check verifies WebAssembly, WebGL, and whether the model runtime can initialize. It does not process an image or upload data.

What ESRGAN is

A detail model, not a magic recovery tool.

How the model works

ESRGAN learns relationships between lower-resolution examples and sharper detail. It is particularly useful when an image has enough structure for the model to recover plausible edges and texture.

Why local processing matters

Cloud processing requires uploading the image and trusting a remote retention policy. The free ImageBig preview performs inference in the browser, so the source image never reaches our Worker.

Where the model stops

Missed focus, motion blur, removed details, and incorrect text are not reliably recoverable. Always inspect branding, faces, thin lines, and transparency at full size.

ESRGAN FAQ

Understand the boundary.

What is ESRGAN image upscaling?

ESRGAN is a generative adversarial super-resolution model trained to reconstruct sharper edges and textures while increasing pixel dimensions. It can improve perceived detail but cannot reliably restore facts absent from the source.

Does ImageBig upload images to run ESRGAN?

The free preview downloads the model into the browser and processes images locally. Image files are not uploaded to ImageBig.

Why does on-device upscaling take time?

The browser must download the model and run image inference on the visitor's device. Larger images and slower devices take longer than small files on a recent desktop browser.

Try ESRGAN with your own image.

Run the compatibility check, then open the free upscaler.
