Free print-sizing tool
Print size calculator for real pixels.
Enter the physical print width, height, and required DPI to calculate the source pixels and megapixels needed. Everything runs in your browser.
How the math works
Pixels turn inches into a print specification.
The print-size formula
A 12×18-inch print at 300 DPI therefore requires 3,600×5,400 pixels. The multiplier is applied separately to width and height.
Why DPI is not the whole file
Pixel dimensions determine how much source information is available. DPI metadata describes the intended output size, but a file can carry incorrect metadata. A printer may also require bleed, safe margins, a specific color profile, or a different DPI.
What this calculator does not check
A high pixel count does not repair a blurry source, incorrect transparency, compression artifacts, copyright problems, or color conversion. Confirm the exact printer requirements before production.
Printing FAQ
Before you send it to print.
How many pixels do I need for a 12×18 print at 300 DPI?
A 12×18 inch print at 300 DPI requires 3,600×5,400 pixels, or 19.4 megapixels.
Is 300 DPI always required?
No. Viewing distance, printer, material, and production requirements vary. Use the DPI required by the printer or marketplace and confirm final dimensions before production.
Does this calculator make an image print-ready?
No. The calculator only determines required pixel dimensions. Sharpness, color, bleed, transparency, file format, and printer specifications still require review.
